Action, well, this has been going.
Well, folks, this has been a battle, an actual battle between the new insta360 Flow, Mobile gimbal that Alina has here I have the incumbent Champion, 6th, generation, DJI om6.
We've been here for a little while few casualties already.
But the gimbals are okay.
Let's wind, the clock back and see which one is best for you mechanical stabilization offered by a mobile gimbal is a really valuable addition to the stabilization already in your phone as you can see on this relatively old iPhone 11.
We are getting some really nice cinematic results.
Obviously, this setup is perfect for the vloggers and travelers out there do stay tuned to see if the insta 360 flows tracking capabilities are better than those of DJI that's, what they claim at least there's a lot to unpack here with these two identically priced, gimbals.
So let's start by comparing the hardware itself.
In both cases, your phone is attached to the gimbal by way of a magnetic phone clamp, both gimbals have integrated pull out selfie sticks.
You can also adjust the angle of the gimbal mechanism at the top of the selfie stick.
This allows you greater flexibility to overcome some of the inherent limitations on the range of the motors, both gimbals have roughly the same payload capacity with room for maneuver to attach your ND filters, enable notifications on your phone in a nice time.
Saver is when you unfold the gimbal, not only will the gimbal turn on, but it will activate the app on your phone.
Both gimbals have the quarter, 20, Threaded, Screw embedded in the handle turning now to some of the Innovation that insta360 has brought to the table.
The flow is smaller.
The handle itself is extendable pull it out.
And you get an extra grip for bigger hands.
But also you have an integrated tripod in that handle the physical controls are a little different.
When we compare both the gimbals, the DJI om6 comes with a couple of buttons.
It has a joystick, and we have a little knob on the side that controls your zoom and your focus with insta360s flow.
We also have a joystick for controlling the pen and tilt of the gimbal.
But we get a new Smart Wheel, which comes with two component parts on the outer ring.
We can adjust the zoom of the camera by physically rotating that ring.
But on the inner section it's, a touch sensitive scroll wheel essentially for changing gimbal modes.
The addition of a cold shoe mount to.
The insta360 flow is definitely welcome for wireless microphone users.
Both gimbals have the same trigger at the front for things like activating active track and locking, the gimbal, the insta360 flow takes, the win with battery life coming in at 12 hours versus 6 hours for DJI perhaps more useful than that however is the ability to use this.
Larger battery as a power bank.
A slightly larger size of the DJI.
Om6 does come with the advantage for those with bigger.
Hands.
It feels better the ergonomics just feel a little bit more comfortable having something bigger to hold on to it's a trade-off at the end of the day, the insta360 flow comes with a rubberized grip to make the experience feel a little bit more comfortable in the hands.
Added to that the screw on tripod that comes with the DJI.
Om6 is a little bit more sturdy, it's bigger at the end of the day, compared with the extendable integrated one on the insta360 flow, undoubtedly, two, fantastic gimbals here.
But given convenience is absolutely Paramount when it comes to mobile filmmaking, the integrated tripod of the insta360 flow, the quicker setup time, the convenient code should Mount the extended battery life and the ability to charge your phone on the go doubling it up as a power bank, they're all fantastic additions to a mobile gimbal.
So physically speaking I think we give the edge to the insta360 flow, turning our attention to the software, the DJI om6 uses its memo app insta360 flow uses its insta.
360 app the same app.
It uses for all the 360 cameras and all the other products in its range, it's quite a creative Powerhouse and I was curious to see how it would translate to this new gimbal.
Both apps have clean interfaces and are easy to use settings are easy to find and change in the various menus.
And both give you full manual control of your exposure, which is absolutely essential.
When it comes to using ND filters for more advanced users both of these apps offer tracking functionality active track 5.0 with DJI and deep track 3.0 with insta now insta360 we're super Keen to impress Upon Us in the lead up to this video that they're tracking technology is better than djis so we've put it to the test kicking things off with a basic tracking test here you can see we've used both apps to identify Alina as she darts from side to side it's really cool to see those gimbals rotate and tilt and do whatever it takes to keep Alina in the frame and both are doing a great job however what if Elena goes out of the frame for a second can the gimbals latch on again to their subject well insta360 have added person re-identification and always on tracking in an attempt to deal with that issue and they claim it's better than DJI so let's start with DJI and, see? What happens if Alina goes out to the shot? Righto tracking Alina away.
She goes.
Crouches down and oh up, she comes okay.
Well, she didn't go out the shot there did Shake Crouch down again.
And oh, we've lost her.
Is it going to re-identify with DJI? No it's gone.
It's toast right? The active track is over let's.
Try that again, just to make sure that that wasn't a bad result.
So I wish it goes crouches down behind the rock tracking.
Nope tracking is done.
Can it re-identify her when she stands up? No, unfortunately, not same test this time with insta360 Flora, I wish.
It goes to the same spot down.
She goes she's out of the frame.
We get an Amber box what's happening up.
She comes person re-identified down.
She goes she's out the shot, Amber box, let's, wait a second re-identified we'll, go over to the same second spot let's just make sure we have a fair test here.
Then she goes out the shot right, Amber box again, tracking has been lost, but can it pick her up again, she's gonna stay there a while is the app going to give up on us? Okay, surely, it's going to give up by now.
And there she is re-identified, very very cool jumping back to dji's active track.
What if Elena who's being tracked at the moment is obstructed by me? Well, as you can see it's, just picked up the track of me straight away.
Now we don't want that we want Alina to be tracked.
Not me, I have stolen the active track from Alina with the DJI om6 let's run the same test with the insta360 flow here I come obstruct, Elena, Amber box, but Alina Remains the track.
Now what if I go in front of her and just completely obstruct her and try and steal the track it's all about me.
This video is all about me, but insta360 is having none of it.
We get that Amber box.
It knows that I am, oh, and there comes Elena.
Oh Cheerio sure it's, not about you it's all about Elena I'm, genuinely impressed here, because these tracking tools are an essential filmmaking tool in this instance, we get a nice shot of Elena, but perhaps more importantly, it allows me to walk and keep an eye on my feet.
So I don't fall over and kill myself while I'm filming her at the same time, insta360's deep track 3.0 also offers slow motion tracking and zoom tracking to the maximum Zoom range of your phone here's, a standard tracking shot done at the 24 millimeter wide angle of Alina's iPhone, 11, Pro again, using active track means I can look at my feet.
So I don't fall over on these rocks let's up the ante and go to 5.1 times Zoom now on these spawns.
The image quality is deteriorating quite substantially your phone might be much better.
But the point is the Deep track 3.0 still works and it's still doing a good job of locking Elena's head in the center of the frame we're, getting that amazing Parallax effect because of the lens compression that comes from these longer focal lengths the foreground mid-ground and background are pulled together.
We've got an ND filter on this.
So we've got some motion blur and it's starting to look really amazing check out this new Zoom tracking recovery on the insta360 flow I'm too busy watching my feet.
We've lost Alina, but the camera automatically zooms out.
Oh it zooms in it zooms out again to try and find Alina.
And there it does it locks on her face again, I think, that's, absolutely amazing.
If that was the DJI om6 would have lost the track.
The second she was off the frame since we're focusing on the differences between these two gimbals.
We won't spend too much time looking at all the other functionality, but know that both of these gimbals and apps are packed full of additional features as for which one you should buy well, it's clear that insta360 have built on the foundation's already established by DJI.
So yes, the insta360 is a newer product coming in at the same price with added functionality, I don't think you're going to go too far wrong.
But either way, whatever you buy is what you do with these tools that count and with a little bit of awareness, you can create some stunning footage.
Whether you have one of these gimbals or you're, just using the phone handheld it's, what you do with it that counts, but have some fun with the technology anyway, I hope you enjoyed this video, stay tuned for future content.
And we will see you next time.

The best DJI drone of them all is the DJI Mini 3 Pro. This drone is perfect for those looking for a lightweight, easy-to-use drone that still offers an impressive range of features. It has a 3-axis gimbal for stable video, a 12 MP camera, and a range of up to 6 miles.
Which is best mobile gimbal? ›If you're looking for a dependable, sturdy, feature-packed gimbal, the Osmo Mobile 6 from DJI is the obvious choice. This three-axis gimbal was released about a year ago and has both Android (sideloaded) and iOS apps. Its key features are the extendable rod, a snappier quick launch, and improved tracking capabilities.
What's the easiest gimbal to use? ›Best budget: DJI Ronin-SC
While load capacity is limited to only 4.85 pounds, the trade-off is a nimble, easy-to-use gimbal that weighs less than 2.5 pounds. It works wonders with mirrorless cameras and action cams. And it will even support smaller-bodied cinema cameras like the powerful Sony FX3.
As Insta360's first smartphone gimbal, the Flow does a lot right, going toe-to-toe with options like the DJI OM6. Its tilt range could be better, though, and not all Android phones get access to all features.
What is the best alternative to Osmo? ›The best alternatives to Osmo are imagi, Kano, and Bitsbox. If these 3 options don't work for you, we've listed over 20 alternatives below.
Is Insta360 good for photography? ›If you have any interest in photography and have never owned a 360 camera I'd highly recommend the Insta360 X3. It may not be a huge upgrade over the ONE X2 but in my view it's the best option right now and a lot of fun.
What is the range of motion of Insta360 Flow? ›Its mechanical range is pretty good for pan and roll – around 330°, but its vertical tilt is much more limited. Insta360 quotes -100° to 82° but I measured it with a digital angle finder in landscape mode and it can only tilt up 30° and down 20° – so a total movement of around 50°.
